In December 2014, Google announced version 1.0 of Android Studio, an open-source IDE for Android apps, based on the open source community edition of IntelliJ IDEA. Other development environments based on IntelliJ's framework include AppCode, CLion, DataGrip, GoLand, PhpStorm, PyCharm, Rider, RubyMine, WebStorm, and MPS. I have upgraded to PyCharm 4.5.1 and accidentally opened an old version of PyCharm 4 that was still on my system. At startup, Pycharm reported certain plugins/configs were not compatible or could not be found (maybe they were not backwards compatible?) and what seemed to happen is that PyCharm got set back to default settings. IntelliJ IDEA is also available as a snap package. If you’re on Ubuntu 16.04 or later, you can install IntelliJ IDEA from the command line. Sudo snap install intellij-idea-community -classic. PyCharm starts after about 2 minutes after launching pycharm.bat: C:Program FilesJetBrainsPyCharm Community Edition 2020.3.2binpycharm.bat OpenJDK 64-Bit Server VM warning: Option UseConcMarkSweepGC was deprecated in version 9.0 and will likely be removed in a future release.

  • Several issues with running Python modules (-m) were resolved: running modules remotely, showing command line after running
  • Further issues with running code over SSH were resolved: they can now connect to IPv6 hosts from macOS, don’t misinterpret `ProxyCommand: none`, and correctly parse the `HostKeyAlgorithms` option (Connecting to a Python interpreter over SSH is only supported in PyCharm Professional Edition)
  • Code insight for SQLAlchemy was improved, the issue with ‘incorrect call arguments’ has been fixed.
