Aug 26, 2010 iWork 9.0.4 This update addresses issues in Keynote, Pages, and Numbers, and adds export compatibility to Pages with the standard ePub file format (for use with iBooks). This update is recommended for users of iWork 9.0, 9.0.1, 9.0.2, and 9.0.3. Apple iWork is a full-featured package that provides the necessary tools to easily and effortlessly create professional looking presentations, spreadsheets and documents. The Apple iWork suite includes the following applications: Pages, Keynote and Numbers.
When you upgraded your system software to Mavericks, it should have automatically downloaded the updated Numbers and Pages - and it is a free update. The newer versions do not support many features that were available in the older versions. If your documents used these features you may lose data by using the newer versions of the software.
By the sounds of it, you deleted these newer versions and are happily using the older versions. The only way to prevent Mavericks from reminding you daily that the newer versions are available is to log out of the App Store. This means that you won't get ANY update notices, so you will have to remember to log back in occasionally to get system updates (especially security updates).
Another alternative is to try to live with both versions on your system. The older versions will remain within an iWork folder within your Applications folder. You can put their icons back on the dock, and remove the newer icons from the dock. But Mavericks will continue to default to using the newer versions and you cannot change this. So you cannot open files by double-clicking them anymore. To open files you must either open the program first, and them use the Open dialogue to find your file, or drag-and-drop your file onto the dock icon for the program, or control-click the file and use the Open With dialogue to open with the older version. If you make a mistake and open with the newer version and then save, you can export it back to the older format, but if you were using an unsupported feature this info will be lost. If you accidentally open with the newer version and do not save, it still may update the file identifier, meaning that the older version will not recognize it. You will have to force the older version to open it, at which point you can resave and it should be fine (except possibly the file icon will be different).
Or you can scrap Mavericks and go back to your previous OS. This will be quite challenging if you have been using Mavericks since November, and you would likely need help from the Apple Store to accomplish it (and some good back ups).

All of that said, you should not have to pay anything for the updated versions of Numbers and Pages.
